You know the impact when you can never seem to get it out of your head. It has been two years since this dream and the trepidation is still there, the dream still crystal clear.
Finally, the day every little girl dreams of. Her wedding. There he would be, waiting on the altar. She smoothen her veil and carefully dab away the excess make up from the corner of her eye. "You look beautiful, Tammy." one of her bridesmaid assured her. Tammy smiled and looked at her reflection for the last time and muttered to herself, "I'm ready."
Her entourage made their way down to the church and waited outside the doors for their big entrance. Behind those heavy wooden doors, she could hear the buzz and chatter within. Her heart fluttered with nervousness and she took a deep breath. This is my day. My time. She kept reciting those words in her mind to psych her for the bond that she was about to form with another being, for the rest of her life.
She had met her soulmate at a party. There she was, quietly waiting for her friends to arrive after a long day at work. Their eyes met from across the room and the rest was history. He started wooing her, taking her out, lavishing her with gifts. She is the center of his world.
The timing was perfect. She just had a fight with one of her closest friends and was feeling worthless. Day in, day out, there was never a time where she won't wonder why her friend was being so distant with her. After such a long time, it didn't make sense on how he could have just left her, without any explanation. Feeling rejected, her soulmate came just at the right time.
They went out for a year before he proposed to her. And of course, she was ecstatic. There were times where she was afraid that this day would not come. But it did.
Suddenly, a knock on the door. Her trance was broken as one of the groomsmen came out. He whispered hastily to her best friend and immediately her facial expression changed. Tammy's eyes darted from one to the other, trying to piece what is happening together. There was something obviously wrong inside because the atmosphere has changed. It wasn't that jovial chatter anymore.
Finally, her friend, her closest friend hesitatingly approached her. His wavering hand handed her a letter. On it, was her soulmate's writing, telling her the wedding is cancelled.
Her heart dropped. No, it was true... It was supposed to be my day. My time. He said he was sorry for ruining her most important day. That everything was a lie. He had did research on her, knowing what she likes, and what would win her over.
His friend saw her that fatal day where they 'met'. Apparently, he saw how sad she was and thought it would be great way to get back at his friend. He was the richest one in the gang, and he offered her 'soulmate' a chance to own one of his many luxury cars. It was all a bet. But he couldn't go through with it. How on earth could he stand being with her for the rest of their lives. So he never showed up. Instead, this was found on his dresser.
Everyone knew by then what had happened. Her cheeks reddened with embarrassment and she ran. She ran and hid from everyone. It was her time, alright. Just not for the reasons she expected. She looked at her white glorious dress and finally sank to the floor. There, alone, she wept. How could have she been fooled like that.
There were quiet footsteps and she warily glanced at the shoes of the person intruding in her personal space. There he was, her best friend. Of course he knew where she was. He sank down next to her, not making a noise, barely glancing at her.
But that was all she needed. She laid her head on his shoulder as tears continue to fall. He hugged her tightly and muttered that that guy was not worth her time. She deserved better.
"You don't know that. How can you be so sure? How could anyone love me..." She muttered into his shoulder.
"Because I do. For quite some time too..."
He laid his head slightly on hers. I didn't want you to get married to him, he explained. I didn't trust him. But I knew how much you loved him and I couldn't bear to see you go through that. Because I was jealous. I couldn't stand it and that's the reason why I couldn't see you. I just needed some time to get over this.
She looked at him, took a deep breath and looked at her now ruin skirt. She threw the veil to the floor and took off her heels. "But this is my day..." she muttered.
He smiled with all the charm he could manage and replied, "Your time."
